According to Law 4497/2017, issues concerning the exercise of certain commercial activities in open space are regulated.
The following definitions apply (article 2 of Law 4497/2017):
‘Outdoor trade’ means commercial activity carried out in an open area, such as the sale of products at farmers’ markets and other organised open-air markets, as well as street trading.
‘Stationary trade’ means the exercise of an outdoor commercial activity by a vendor who does not move from a fixed point designated by the competent authority.
“Street trading” means the carrying on of an open-air commercial activity by a vendor moving with or without the use of any motorised or towed vehicle or any other mobile means of transport.
“Farmers’ market”: an open-air, mobile, organised market, where producers of primary and processed products of cottage industry and professional sellers are active, mainly for the sale of primary and industrial products. [1]
‘Fair’: an open-air market in which a variety of goods are sold on the occasion of a religious or anniversary celebration.
