Nursery Schools

Children’s Centres are places of education and safe accommodation for children of pre-school age, and their purpose is to:

  • Provide integrated pre-school education based on the latest scientific knowledge.

  • Offer daily nutrition and care for the children they host, in accordance with hygiene and safety regulations.

  • Support the holistic development of children—physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially.

  • Minimise, as far as possible, disparities that may arise from the cultural, economic, or educational background of their parents.

  • Assist parents while also raising their awareness on contemporary issues in pedagogy and psychology.

  • Help preschool children transition smoothly from the family environment to the school setting.

It is worth noting that Children’s Centres play a vital role in the psychosomatic development of the child, who gradually shapes his or her personality, grows, socialises, learns, and creates—thus developing a unique identity distinct from peers of the same age.

The Children’s Centre becomes the first warm, nurturing environment after the child’s own family. Here, the child has the opportunity to express themselves in many ways, as this environment becomes a vital space for exploration and activity. They actively engage in the world of learning and creativity, develop their talents and interests, and become better prepared for the next stage of their educational journey.

Fees

The fees, which constitute a small contribution to the operating costs of the Municipal Nursery Schools, are determined by a decision of the Administrative Board and approved by the Municipal Council. The amount is based on the parents’ family income, while exemptions are provided for special social cases.

Fees must be paid within the first five days of each month to the National Bank of Greece, Korinthos Branch (379), to the account with IBAN: GR9201103790000037900754500 of the Legal Entity “SOCIAL POLICY CENTRE OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF KORINTHOS.”

It is noted that fees are paid for the months from September to July regardless of the child’s attendance. In cases of absence or illness, the fees are still payable.

If a child is absent for serious health reasons for more than one month, the corresponding contributions are not paid for the period of absence, provided that a Hospital Certificate is submitted indicating the duration of absence and recovery, and the matter is considered by the Administrative Board, which may grant an exemption from payment.

Diseases

In the event that a child falls ill during nursery hours, the parents are notified promptly and the child is picked up. The child may return only after full recovery and upon presentation of a medical certificate from a paediatrician, confirming both the illness and the child’s recovery.

If a child contracts a communicable disease, parents must inform the Nursery Centre in a timely manner and may return only after submitting a medical certificate.

If a child is on medication, its administration is solely the responsibility of the parents, as staff members are not permitted to administer any medication.

In the case of lice infestation, parents are notified and the child must remain at home for three days in order to be treated and cleared of lice.

Interruption of hospitality

The discontinuation of the accommodation of infants in the Nursery Schools is always carried out by a reasoned decision of the Board of Directors and only under the following circumstances:

  • When the child reaches the age required for enrolment in kindergarten.

  • When the parents submit a written request for withdrawal.

  • When, despite repeated written notices, the parents fail to comply with the programme and operational rules of the Nursery.

  • When the parents do not pay their financial contribution, despite being informed.

  • When the child is repeatedly absent from the Nursery for more than one month without justification.

  • When it is not possible to integrate the child into the group.

Beneficiaries - Eligibility requirements

The Children’s and Nursery Schools of the Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia will accept applications for the registration and re-registration of infants for each school year following a public announcement. The announcement will be made by the Management Office of the legal entity, the local Childcare and Nursery Schools, through the media, the blogs of the Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia, the Municipality’s website, as well as other digital platforms.

The required supporting documents for the registration and re-registration of infants and toddlers will be specified each time in the relevant announcements of the Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia (K.K.P.D.K.).

Useful tips

The Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia, fully aware of the demands of modern life that often require mothers to work outside the home, as well as the emotional and psychological need for women to participate equally in the labour market — all amidst constant financial pressures on families — actively supports the modern woman-mother in her many roles.

To this end, the Centre participates in the initiative of H.E.T.A.A. S.A., titled “Reconciliation of Family and Professional Life.”

The aim of the programme is to encourage women — mothers of infants and toddlers — to remain in or return to the workforce, offering them peace of mind by ensuring their children receive proper care, creative stimulation, and entertainment during working hours.

Additionally, the programme contributes to relieving the financial burden on families, as children of participating mothers are enrolled free of charge in the Municipal Childcare and Nursery Centres, which operate under the supervision of the Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia.

Through this initiative, the Social Policy Centre provides placement opportunities for eligible mothers, reaffirming its commitment to supporting families and empowering women in the workforce.

Reconciling family and professional life

The Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia, recognizing the challenges of modern life that often compel mothers to work outside the home, as well as the emotional and psychological need for women to have equal participation in the labour market, alongside the constant financial challenges faced by families, supports the modern woman-mother in her various roles. This is achieved through participation in the action of H.E.T.A.A. S.A., entitled “Reconciling Family and Professional Life.”

The aim of the programme is to encourage women, particularly mothers of infants or toddlers, to remain in or reintegrate into the labour market, providing them with peace of mind that their children are cared for, engaged in creative activities, and entertained during working hours.

Moreover, the programme strengthens the family budget, as children of participating mothers are accommodated free of charge in the Municipal Children’s and Infant Care Centres, which are operated under the supervision of the Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia.

The Social Policy Centre of the Municipality of Korinthia actively participates in the “Reconciliation of Family and Professional Life” action by offering positions to beneficiary mothers.
