Municipal Free and Open University (MEFU)
WHAT IS DEAP: Municipal Free Open Universities are a participatory and dynamic form of lifelong learning, a process of personal development and are already operating in more than 30 municipalities. In the Municipality of Korinthia, the idea came from the vice-rector and professor emeritus of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Dimitrios Tousoulis, and was accepted by the Mayor, Nikos Stavrelis.
HOW IT WORKS: The IEPC does not provide qualifications, however, those who complete the knowledge cycles receive certificates of attendance. Obviously, there are no tuition fees, no compulsory purchase of books or notes, and of course no exams or assignments. The programme will be flexible, with ever-expanding subject areas in both the theoretical and scientific disciplines. Each quarter will be different and will touch on topics related to education and pedagogy, psychology, sociology, economics, economics, tourism, rational management of the natural environment, history, folklore, public relations, international relations, philosophy, literature, medicine, etc.
WHO WILL TEACH: Courses will be taught by leading professors from Greek universities. For the first quarter, the lecturers will include Professor Dimitris Tousoulis (Heart and the Environment), Efthymis Lekkas (Consequences of the Climate Crisis), Sotiris Tsiodras (Winter Infections and Practical Vaccination Guidelines), etc.
WHERE THE COURSES WILL TAKE PLACE: The lessons will take place at the Municipal Theatre “Thomas Thomas Thomas Thomas”.
WHEN THE COURSES START AND WHEN THEY WILL BE HELD: Classes start on Wednesday 16 October and will be held twice a month (every second Wednesday evening, at 6.00). There will be two quarters: winter (October through January) and spring (February through May). The schedule for each quarter will be posted before the start of classes, and that for the first quarter, as mentioned, is already posted on the municipal website (link).
