Violence against women

It concerns any act based on sex which results in physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in private life. (para 113 “4th Global Women’s Conference of the Beijing Platform for Action”)

The Centre provides:

⦁ Counselling and integrated psychosocial support for women victims of violence.
⦁ Referral services for victims, whenever necessary, to shelters, police and prosecution authorities, courts, hospitals, health centres, mental health centres, institutions responsible for welfare or other benefits, employment and entrepreneurship promotion agencies, child protection and support agencies, etc.
⦁ Awareness-raising and information actions for the local community, aimed at preventing and combating all forms of violence against women.

The Centre is addressed to:

⦁ Women who suffer physical abuse, psychological, emotional or verbal violence, economic violence, who have been subjected to or attempted rape, who have been victims of prostitution or trafficking, who have been subjected to sexual harassment. The Centre also receives citizens and institutions, upon request, in order to obtain information on issues related to the fight against violence and discrimination against women.

The Centre is staffed with:

⦁ Social Worker
⦁ Psychologist
⦁ Sociologist

The services of the Centre are provided free of charge and are governed by the rules of confidentiality.

The Centre operates in conjunction with:

⦁ The Counselling Centres of the General Secretariat for Gender Equality (GSGE)
⦁ The Hostels and the Counselling Centres of the Municipalities
⦁ The SOS Hotline 15900 of the General Secretariat for Family Affairs
