Where to declare the marriage

Every marriage that takes place as an event within the boundaries of the Municipal Units of the Municipality of Korinthia, whether it is religious or political, must be registered at the respective Municipal Unit’s Registry Office.

When the marriage declaration is made

Timely declaration: within 40 (forty) calendar days
Late registration:
From the 41st day until the 130th day, the marriage is declared with a fine of 100 €
After the 130th day, the marriage is declared with a fine of 300 €.
The aforementioned fines are paid following the decision of the Secretary General of the Decentralized Administration.

By whom the marriage is declared

The marriage is declared by one of the two spouses or by a third person by virtue of a notarial power of attorney

What documents are required for the marriage declaration

  • The marriage declaration, which is prepared by the priest who performed the marriage or the Mayor (in the case of a civil marriage), signed by the two spouses and the witnesses
  • Identity cards of the spouses or passports (for third country nationals with a valid residence permit).
  • Birth certificates from the last three months (for third country nationals, officially translated*).
  • The tax identification number (A.F.M.) and the social security number (A.M.K.A.) of both spouses. If unavailable, a responsible statement confirming their non-existence will be provided.
  • If there is an InsuranceProvider.
  • Act of determination of the children’s surname by the Church or the Municipality
 

Ordination of the Civil Marriage

The ordination of civil marriage is declared:

  1. At the Registry Office where the civil marriage took place and was declared.
  2. At the Registry Office where the Religious Marriage took place
    (In this case, a Priesthood Report is prepared and sent to the Registry Office where the Civil Marriage was declared. The necessary document is the submission of the Civil Marriage Certificate).

  • The marriage declaration, which is prepared by the priest who performed the ceremony.
  • Identity cards of the spouses or passports (for third country nationals with a validated residence permit).
